I've been watching the twinkly red one Mars rising in the night sky lately. This week, it's at its Perigee (closest point to Earth), and in opposition to the Sun. That makes it more visible to stargazers , and symbolically, a greater force in our lives. Mars kicks in when we're in danger, to confront threats to our survival. It's the surge of fire that kindles passion, drive, motivation, vitality, sexual heat, competition.
Mars plays a starring role this week, because it reaches perigee AND conjuncts the closest (to Earth) Full Moon of the year! Richard Nolle of Astropro, calls this lunar peak, an extreme SuperMoon. He says we may see a spike in earth changes, like coastal flooding, volcanoes, quakes. And, he foresees "hot blood and hot tempers - particularly, as far as the January 30 SuperMoon is concerned, for people born under significant Leo-Aquarius factors."
Those that are quick to anger (and the fire and fixed signs) will want to watch out for this rising red tide within. But I see this as a potentially catalytic Moon for those struggling with apathy, low physical energy or depression. It may provoke a release that gets the blood flowing back to your cheeks, re-animates you from the inside out. Mars is often an ally that jumpstarts our lives. If you're listless and disconnected, this potent pairing of Moon-Mars could shock your heart awake again.
Possible martian themes through early February:
- Clashes between wildly different world views.
- Taking dramatic steps in the direction of your creative dreams.
- Defying convention and possibly provoking those around you.
- Rising to the defense of all life.
- Re-kindling your sexual fires.
- Confronting any 'fixed' patterns of thought in yourself or others.
- Acting on the desire for more play, humor, celebrations.
