Happy Spring!

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

' hspace=

It's Spring Equinox, with day and night in equal balance. The Sun goes into Aries, giving us that boost of cardinal fire to act on what's been germinating all winter. It can help overcome sluggishness or apathy. We're coming alive and so is all of nature. The little buds are starting to open on my blueberry bush and we've got lots of happy birds around here (including a pair of bald eagles!) My favorite Spring sight are the bees, busy doing their thing.

The signs of Spring are comforting reminders that life renews itself. So many of us are struggling now with all this change. But I hope Spring brings a lift and some definite signs that the new is bursting forth. Spring is here -- hooray!

Day 2: Look After Saturn

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

It's day two of the International Astrology Day blog carnival! Today's focus is on Saturn, which UK astrologer Mandi Lockley calls the most easily accessible energy of the three major planets in the cardinal t-square. The article collection is found at the main blog carnival site, and at Mandi's site, Astro Air.

Saturn has been facing off with Uranus, upsetting all the established orders, most notably with the economy. Mandi writes, "As the ripples reached our personal lives, our ability to remain flexible yet strong in the face of disruptive change has been tested, none more so since Saturn moved into Libra and began to square Pluto in Capricorn, a transit signifying restriction and hard, hard work."

It looks like a great collection of topics related to Saturn from using quartz crystals, budgeting, time management to boundaries, the 2nd Saturn return, astrology of mid-life and of course, relationships. In the spirit of Libra, I hope you find some illumination on Saturn in these pages.

Day 1: Pluto Problems

Friday, March 19th, 2010

It's the first day of the International Astrology Day blog carnival! That means the articles on Pluto are now LIVE via the main blog carnival site. The Pluto section there leads to Donna Cunningham's skywriter site and the collection of articles on the everyday challenges related to Pluto in Capricorn -- everything from credit card debt to insomnia, from infertility to special advice for the Pluto Libra generation (1971-84).

After the high flying days of bubbles and living beyond our means, Pluto in Capricorn has brought us down to earth with a thud. Writes Donna, "The era of Pluto in Capricorn is a time of facing reality, getting grounded, paying the bills, and being accountable for our actions. It hasn't been fun!" Donna, who has a background in social work, was inspired to put together articles for everyday people adapting to extreme changes in our real lives. I'm sure there's something useful here for everyone, as we all seek to do our best in a trying time.

Saturn Helps Me Shop

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

' hspace=

Way back to childhood, many of my most despairing moments have been in the dressing room of stores. As a teen with a weight problem, I used to choose clothes that I wanted to fit into, not the ones I actually fit into. It got so bad that Mom would say, "Does it really fit? Are you telling the truth?" As a young Pisces rising, I had trouble living in the reality, rather than the fantasy.

To this day, I still struggle with knowing what looks good, and which clothes are "me." So today, I've got to go shopping to put together two business casual looks for a meeting of about.com guides this weekend. Since I'm vulnerable to spending the whole day in a lost daze, overwhelmed by the choices, I decided to do a little research beforehand.

Because as I've gotten older, it's slowly dawned on me that with Saturn in the first house (appearance, style), a life lesson is being disciplined about my self-image. With Saturn, we can't just wing it. It's where we are pressured to persevere, focus, find order out of the chaos, face our fears.

It's helped to look through magazines and online for looks, and then ask myself to be realistic. "Will I really wear that?" Now before I head out, I've honed in on the stores I'm going to, and exactly what I'm looking for. I've even written it down. I also know I've got a two hour window of focus, and have to keep from getting distracted while in the racks. So, as odd as it seems, Saturn is my friend as I head out to shop (not 'til I drop). In what ways is Saturn your friend?

Harmonic Defiance

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

' hspace=

The famous phrases that came out of the American Revolution show us they were fighting for their lives. Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death," lets us know how intensely they felt the weight of tyranny. Then there's "Live Free or Die," the words of General John Stark, of New Hampshire, which later adopted this as their motto. Stark sent the message to fellow revolutionaries when he couldn't attend a reunion in 1809. The full toast was, "Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils."

As Mercury goes into Aries today, we're sure to see more language that defies the irreverent and anti-life status quo. The fire of Mercury in Aries can burn off mental fog, and inspire daring thoughts of what we can do. Mercury meets with friendly energizing Mars in Leo today, infusing us with the courage to face our fears, so we can act. It's easier to see our life today as a hero's journey.

On Thursday (the 18th), Mercury opposes Saturn in Libra, and then Friday (the 19th) comes into a tense square with Pluto in Capricorn. It's the leading edge of what will become a shattering of narrow, carefully manipulated and limited perceptions. The surge of life is so forceful and alive that it makes everything else pale (and dead-looking) in comparison. With Pluto in the picture, speaking up for what's emerging (Aries) becomes a matter of life and death.

I find it exciting to think of minds liberated to follow these fresh impulses, which will grow stronger with Uranus in Aries. Because if man-made laws and the established order (Saturn) of things are destroying life on the planet, then defiance means fighting for life. And just refusing to go along with the status quo, while discordant to the society, is a balancing act.

In her book Bringers of the Dawn, channeler Barbara Marciniak writes that we come to Earth to be defiant. She writes, "...not in a way that would give you problems or create disharmony, but in a way that would create harmonic defiance. Through your harmony, you are defiant toward the old vibrational frequency."

To me, this hints at the uprising for humanity that's lit by that fire within. It's the spark of life coming forward to demand expression. Mercury is in Aries through April 3rd!

Staying Alert and Aware

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

' hspace=

Today we get an exhilarating buzz from the Uranus-Sun meet up in Pisces. A big theme for Uranus Pisces is serendipity, so watch for sunny, energizing signs that hint at a divine order. The Moon in Aries adds its in-the-moment urgency to the Uranian breaks for freedom for the same ole' status quo.

Other possible themes:
  • Insomnia, mind racing, restless legs syndrome.
  • Strange dreams and thought tangents.
  • Emotional outbursts in unlikely places.
  • Speaking forcefully from the heart.
  • Reckless acts that endanger self or others.
  • Accidents due to being oblivious to physical environment.
  • Electrical disturbances, jolts to nervous system.

There's big propulsive energies, but these surges can go rogue and be dangerous. The raw impulse to act and bust out, gets us in trouble when it's not handled with care. It asks us to be mindful of others' reactions, needs, and sensitivities and be aware of what's going on around us. It's a lite sampling of what's to come when we'll be embodying the two wild ones together with Uranus in Aries.

“Never Let Go of Hope”

Monday, March 15th, 2010

' hspace=

It's the New Moon in Pisces today, which joins the Sun and Moon in the last sign of the Zodiac. Endings. Emptiness. Emotional Fullness. A time of reflection on all that's happened. There may be a wake-up call (surprising news, shocking messages) with Uranus-Mercury in an alignment. And it's a psychically rich week of deep soul searching, before the busting out of the season (and Spring Equinox, March 20th).

Michelle Lessirard of the New Moon Journal, says the entire week can be powerful for intention-setting. Michelle writes, "Gather friends to honor the change in seasons...create an object or drawing that represents what you are giving birth to this next season. Dust off your New Years vision board. Give the muse a voice. Honor her presence in small rituals that feed your mind, heart and soul."

And in her poetic post, Out of the Formless, CJ Wright of Auntie Moon has thoughtful suggestions for this moment. One is to analyze the year since last Spring, since the subtle nuances could be lost when the Sun bursts into Aries. She writes, "Pisces/Pisces, the end of the cycle. In only a few days, we'll enter a new world and the cycle will begin again. Spring! The ancient one becomes a child."

A metaphysical writer I follow, Karen Bishop, says it's a time when we may feel like empty shells, before the new comes in. Even so, she writes in her latest post, "Many are making sudden and massive changes within themselves, and becoming new people in leaps and bounds. Many are noticing that something is at hand."

That "something at hand" is the awakening of something within us, that'll help us move through the darkness we're in now. I like this anonymous quote of encouragement from the Auntie Moon site, "Never let go of hope. One day you will see that it all has finally come together. What you have always wished for has finally come to be. You will look back and laugh at what has passed and you will ask yourself...How did I get through all of that?"

So, it's fitting that today I picked the Bat in the Medicine Cards, the totem of rebirth, but not before a ritual death. As the guide book says, the natives of Turtle Island (America) sent their initiates to dig a grave, and spend the night in the womb of Mother Earth all alone in the dark. "Darkness, and the sounds of animals prowling, quickly confront the initiate with his or her fears."

These last days of Pisces find us hanging upside-down like the Bat, preparing for rebirth. Which, Medicine Cards points out, is the position babies assume before they're born. The human future is so uncertain these days, that the anticipation can be mixed with dread or foreboding. But Pisces has the potential of showing us the way to real hope. That's when we know that no matter how dead, empty, lost, betrayed, victimized, forsaken or tainted we feel, there's always a chance to come out the other side....for a real rebirth.

Aries Horoscope for week of 03/15/2010 through 03/21/2010

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Put romance on the shelf on Monday; you've got plenty of other stuff to do, and the stars say less is more now. Then, more is more around Tuesday and Wednesday -- singles should put themselves out there, while those in relationships should definitely follow a romantic impulse. At the end of the workweek, it may well be work that's first and foremost in your mind (not that exciting, but sometimes necessary). Get it done so you can play this weekend, when plenty of lighthearted energy's available. Think flirty!

Taurus Horoscope for week of 03/15/2010 through 03/21/2010

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Whether a friend's confiding in you about their love life or you're sharing a sweet little secret of your own, Monday's all about a tete-a-tete. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, singletons find revisiting the online personals or their social networking site fruitful -- spruce up that profile! Those in relationships, though, may want to take it slow. The end of the workweek looks rather hot; the weather outside may be frightful, but you're extra delightful. Enjoy yourself! This weekend, planning your love life in the long-term may be fun, but it's also pretty unrealistic. Be ready for whatever comes.

Gemini Horoscope for week of 03/15/2010 through 03/21/2010

Monday, March 15th, 2010

You'd be wise to concentrate on work on Monday; save the sweet little IMs and online flirtation 'til after-hours. Let a trusted, emotionally intelligent friend in on a certain hope around Tuesday and Wednesday, and listen to their opinion on it (even -- or especially -- if it's hard to hear). Then show a certain someone that you're capable of zeroing in on them at the end of the workweek; they'll feel very special getting more than your usual short attention span. And this weekend? Wow -- you're hot stuff, and everybody knows it.
